Inspirational Event for Women and Teenage Girls

to be held in North Canton, Ohio

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, April 27, 2009 -- Walk in Faith, an inspirational

2-session event targeting women and teenagers, will be held May 29 and 30 at Walsh University.

Presentations will focus on the lives and special virtues of five female spiritual leaders and feature the well-known Johnnette Benkovic, EWTN radio host and popular author.  It is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 6:30-9:30 pm and Saturday, May 30th at 1:30-5:00 pm at the David Center on the Walsh University campus located at 2020 East Maple Street in North Canton.

“Mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers and friends attending the event will learn about specific traits found in women that have influenced people’s lives globally and locally,” said Mary Cornell, co-founder of Walk Together in Faith, a non-profit company that is sponsoring and organizing the event.         “These key traits can become tools that teenage girls can use to face challenges found every day in school, at home and in the community,” said Cornell.

Johnnette Benkovic, who will address unique topics each day, is the executive producer of EWTN’s The Abundant Life and host of Women of Grace Live, a call-in talk show.  Her many books include Full of Grace: Women and the Abundant Life and Grace-Filled Moments.

The lives of five spiritual women will be explored.  Benkovic will uncover key events in the inspiring life of Jesus’ mother, Mary, and her courage as a tool for women to use today.  The four other women and their gifts of tools include:

·          St. Theresa, The Little Flower, for her humility.

·          Mother Angelica, a Canton, Ohio, native, for her leadership.

·          Rhoda Wise, also of Canton, for her faith.

·          Anna Mae Wise, Rhoda’s daughter, for her perseverance.

Presentations will include interviews of Rhoda Wise’s grandchildren.

It has been documented that Rhoda Wise received regular visits from Jesus at her home in Canton and experienced a miraculous healing.  Mother Angelica was brought to the Wise home at the age of 19.  Her visit subsequently led to her eventually being healed of a malady and entering the convent.

Sixty years after Rhoda Wise’s death, crowds still visit her small Canton home.

A fundraiser will also be held for the homeless of Stark County during the 2-day event.  Pre-owned and new formal gowns will be sold through a silent auction.

“This is a perfect way for a mother and daughter to celebrate Mother’s Day,” said Cornell.  “It includes the gifts of five useful, decision-making tools to use daily.”

Nearly 300 women and teenage girls are expected to attend.  A limited number of tickets remain for the 2-day event at a cost of $30.  For tickets and information, call Mary Cornell at 330-497-4270 or Kitty Scherer at 330-499-9663.

The Beginning of the Father Son Event

Two weeks before hosting the Mother Daughter Event at Walsh University in May 2009 I met with Heath from Young Life.  I showed him the facility at Hoover Park and we both agreed what a great place for the Father Son Event.  Back at the campus we found a bench and Heath wanted to hold the event in 2009, but I insisted that it be this year.  We prayed on it and left.  Later that week I met Kathy from First Christian Church in Canton.  Kathy couldn't help me with the Mother Daughter Event but told me to come back for the Father Son Event.  At our meeting we printed off the schedule for the Football Hall of Fame Festival.  By accident, I left the header for my board "One Flock One Shepherd".  I next went to see Miguel at Walsh University.  We talked about the Father Son Event, checked the Hall of Fame and Hoover Park schedules.  August 3rd was open for Hoover Park and that date fit the Hall of Fame schedule as well.  The date and place were now confirmed!  Kathy called and told me that I'd left the header board in her office.  I feel that that was truly a confirmation that she needed to be on board with us for this upcoming event!

At our first meeting I suggested having love in the title.  The men rebutted explaining that love wouldn't draw in men or boys but perhaps something to do with "legacy" should be in the title.  Through prayer, "Legacy of Love" struck me.  Jesus died on the cross and rose up to open the gates of heaven.  This was his passionate love for us!  "Passing on his legacy of love to our fathers, who will pass it on to their sons".  I contacted everyone through an email with the idea.  Heath responded back that love is the best gift a father can give.  Everyone agreed that we now had our name!
